KUWAIT CITY, Sept 11: The Sentences Execution Department of Ministry of Justice has ordered the arrest of former MP Musallam Al-Barrak for the execution of the verdict of a case filed against him by former MP Mohammad Al-Juwaihil.
Attorney Yousef Hussain, the legal counsel to Al-Juwaihil, said he worked hard to ensure necessary legal procedures were carried out for executing the verdict against Al-Barrak due to his failure to pay a compensation of KD 5,001 to his client.
He explained that his client had filed a case against Al-Barrak after the latter issued offensive remarks about him during a program that was aired in a local TV channel. He affirmed that the Court of Appeals upheld a previous ruling by the Court of First Instance which had ordered Al-Barrak to pay a fine of KD 50 in addition to the civil compensation of KD 5,001.
Attorney Yousef Hussain added that Al-Barrak was also accused of committing a press crime and violating the audiovisual law. According to the case file, the Public Prosecution had accused Al-Barrak of offending Al-Juwaihil publicly with the intention of defaming him. It also considered the action of Al-Barrak as an attack against some tribes that is capable of causing division in the society.
